ABOUT US

Farnworth and Kearsley Labour Club was founded in 1924 by Hon. Richard Mathews, the then Secretary to George Tomlinson, the country's education Secretary.

At first the group would meet in the Royal Oak pub which stood on the site of the clubs current building.

The group quickly became popular and membership started to grow and by 1929 the decision was taken to purchase the Royal Oak pub and rebuild a brand new club, twice the size of the the current pub, with up to date modern facilities. The Royal Oak was purchased from Greenall's Brewery in 1930 and quickly demolished. A walking stick commemorating this transfer can still be found in the club today. The club was rebuilt over the site retaining the Royal Oaks original cellar which is still in use today.

No expense was spared and a new super club was built for a grand cost at the time of £62,662. Adjusted for inflation that equates to roughly £5.2 million in todays money. The club was the finest of its day featuring full plaster embellished ceilings, a grand concert room and even revolving doors.

The club has been at the heart of the community for over 100 years and will strive to be relevant in these challenging times. The clubs latest management team have over 10 years service at the club are dedicated to ensuring its future success.
